Garden Butterfly Review 2019

Painted Lady seen on the 20th Aug.
For every year since 2003, I have been recording the first date of each month when a species of butterfly has been seen in my garden.
In 2019 this was on 32 occasions which is slightly up on the average of 30. The number of species seen was 13 which is about the average for the garden.
Red Admiral and Painted Lady were recorded in 5 of the months, but sadly there were no occurrences of Green-veined White.
The 20th of Aug was a particularly good day for Butterflies when 3 Small Whites, 3 Painted Ladies and 1 each of Large White, Red Admiral and Peacock were seen.
The chart below shows the earliest dates when a Butterfly has been seen and for 2019 this was the 19th April. Both Brimstone and Holly Blue were seen on that day.
The last recorded species was on the 10th Nov and as expected this was a Red Admiral.
